Lesotho Day Tour

Underberg

From 1 April 2024, Lesotho Tourism has instituted a tourism levy to enter Lesotho at the Sani Top border post - the amount will go to developing tourism in Lesotho. The current amount is R100 per adult, children are free.

Activity Description

Start your day with pickup from Underberg or Himeville and set off on a high-clearance 4×4 adventure toward the base of the legendary Sani Pass. Navigate steep switchbacks, rocky tracks, and mountain streams, stopping at scenic viewpoints for photos and fresh mountain air. Along the way, your expert guide shares insights about the Drakensberg mountains, local wildlife, and Lesotho culture.
At the summit, cross the border into Lesotho, a highland kingdom of rolling alpine grasslands, grazing livestock, and stone homesteads. Here, choose between:
Basotho Pony Riding: Ride sturdy local ponies along scenic highland trails, experiencing the landscape as locals do, with breathtaking mountain views.
Village Immersion: Spend extended time in a traditional Basotho village, learning about daily routines, local crafts, livestock farming, and tasting freshly baked bread.
Lunch is enjoyed in the highlands, either as a scenic picnic or at a local mountain eatery serving hearty fare. After lunch, descend the Sani Pass, stopping for final photo opportunities and reflecting on the day’s immersive experiences.
Return to Underberg or Himeville in the late afternoon with memories of a day filled with adventure, culture, and stunning scenery. This tour is ideal for travelers seeking both thrills and meaningful cultural connections in one unforgettable journey.

Customer Reviews

The driver was very accommodating and the tour proceeded on time. The tour itself was a great experience as I was able to experience the majestic nature. - SHINGO

The day was perfect! Lesoto is amazing. - Eva

The extended Lesotho tour was simply amazing! I did the regular tour years ago and this was something different. Would recommend to everyone. It was so special meeting the locals, visiting a true authentic local village and the Sani Pass is just breathtakingly beautiful. Our guide was the best and I absolutely love the jeeps of Roof of Africa. We took our little one and everything worked out perfect! - Laura

It is is really worth it while to do a 4x4 trip on the Sani pass. What a rough road! Horse riding in Lesotho opened up horizons and a short visit to Makothlong gave an idea what it is like to live in the highest city of Lesotho. Good one! - Rob

We had a great day. Our guide was very enthousiastic, he gave us so much information the whole day. We had the pass, but also a visit to a real village. There we had a chat whit the local woman. Also a visit to a town and to a bridge/dam they are building. Great lunch my a little river. We can really advise this tour! - Robert
